Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian dessert made of deep-fried milk solids soaked in sugar syrup. These sweet, soft, and melt-in-your-mouth balls are a delight for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 3-4 tbsp milk
- Oil for frying
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- Saffron strands and chopped pistachios for garnish
- In a bowl, mix the milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking soda.
- Add ghee and mix well.
- Gradually add milk to form a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into small equal-sized portions and roll them into smooth balls.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the balls on low heat until they turn golden brown.
- In a separate saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cardamom powder. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes to make the sugar syrup.
- Remove the sugar syrup from heat.
- Gently drop the fried Gulab Jamun balls into the warm sugar syrup and let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
- Garnish with saffron strands and chopped pistachios before serving. Enjoy the delicious Gulab Jamun warm or at room temperature!
