Chana Masala

Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful and aromatic tomato-based sauce. It is a comforting and satisfying vegetarian meal that is bursting with spices and flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until translucent.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green chili. Saute for another minute.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.
- Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Cook the spices for a couple of minutes.
- Add the chickpeas and 1/2 cup of water. Stir well and simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
- Add lemon juice and adjust salt and spices according to your taste.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
- Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
