Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful and aromatic tomato-based sauce. It is a comforting and satisfying vegetarian meal that is bursting with spices and flavors.

Ingredients
  • 2 cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until translucent.
  2. Add the garlic, ginger, and green chili. Saute for another minute.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.
  4. Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Cook the spices for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add the chickpeas and 1/2 cup of water. Stir well and simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Add lemon juice and adjust salt and spices according to your taste.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
  8. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
