Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic Indian rice dish packed with spices, meat, and fragrant basmati rice. It is a favorite dish for special occasions and gatherings.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 pound chicken or lamb, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/2 cup fried onions
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking
  1. Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pan, heat oil and fry the onions until golden brown. Remove half of the fried onions and set them aside for garnishing.
  3. Add garlic, ginger, and tomatoes to the pan. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  4. Add the chicken or lamb pieces to the pan along with turmeric, cumin, coriander powder, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Cook until the meat is browned.
  5. Stir in the yogurt and cook for a few minutes.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Stir well.
  7. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pan, and let it simmer until the rice is cooked and the meat is tender.
  8. Once done, garnish the Biryani with chopped fresh coriander leaves and the reserved fried onions.
  9. Serve hot with raita and mango chutney. Enjoy your flavorful Biryani!
