Miso Soup

A steaming bowl of miso soup topped with sliced green onions, tofu cubes, seaweed, and sesame seeds.

A traditional and comforting Japanese soup made with savory miso paste, tofu, seaweed, and green onions.

Ingredients
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp miso paste
  • 1/2 block tofu, cubed
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup seaweed, soaked and sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Optional: dashi (Japanese soup stock)
  1. In a pot, bring water to a simmer. If using dashi, add it at this point.
  2. In a small bowl, mix miso paste with a ladle of hot water from the pot and stir until smooth.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the pot and let them cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the miso mixture to the pot and stir well.
  5. Add sliced green onions and soaked seaweed to the soup.
  6. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, being careful not to let the soup boil.
  7. Turn off the heat and drizzle with sesame oil.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
