Japanese
Delight in this classic Japanese dish that combines vinegared rice and an assortment of fillings rolled in seaweed.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Nori seaweed sheets
- Fillings of your choice (e.g. fish, avocado, cucumber, crab sticks)
- Soy sauce and wasabi for serving
- Rinse sushi rice in a strainer until the water runs clear. In a saucepan, combine the rice and water and cook according to the package instructions.
- In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Heat in the microwave for a few seconds.
- Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and fold in the vinegar mixture to season the rice. Allow the rice to cool.
- Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands and spread a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving a border at the top.
- Add your chosen fillings in a line about 1 inch from the bottom of the nori.
- Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat, wetting the border to seal the roll.
- Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife.
- Serve the sushi rolls with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side. Enjoy!
